Dark Shadows Lecture/Rant

Greetings!

Since I haven’t posted in a while, today for a catch up I’m just talking about the new Tim Burton movie ‘Dark Shadows’

Ever since the film’s production it seems like lots of people had severe doubts, which is understandable.

However, at the release of the trailer recently, there has been a complete wave of anger at the movie, and only a few people looking forward to it.

I watched the trailer today, here’s my opinion:

I saw a few episodes of Dark Shadows TV show, and I admit that this movie does in no way equal that masterpiece, but at the same time I am going to watch the film…and probably I will like it.

It is very cheesy,  and in some ways facepalm worthy (As were my reactions to the trailer) but Tim Burton has never made a bad movie yet, and although people are furious that it’s a ‘Comedy’ is that such a bad thing?

Tim Burton always seems to add a twist to his movies, and even if there is comedy it always seems to have a ‘Delightfully spooky but at the same time warm and ‘homey’ type of feel.’

This is not the original Dark Shadows, obviously, so people shouldn’t be so cringe worthy at something that’s obviously a different spin on the original idea! Of course, as I mentioned earlier, there were face palming moments for me when I saw the trailer, but trailers can be misleading…TO sum up this whole ramble/rant of a post I’ll just say this:

This is a Tim Burton movie, and he’s always made good movies, the movie has a strong cast, and whether or not it has ‘cheesy sappy’ humour, there should also be good ‘dark’ moments as well.

It’s a good darkly elegant comedy, perhaps not as good as Beetlejuice, but that also was a ‘dark comedyish’ type film and it was great!

Ugh, I’m sorry. I think that’s all I have to say…I’m sorry for ranting on about it. I just feel that people should give the movie a chance, and not just diss it because it’s sappy or because of the trailer.

That’s the end of this ‘lecture’…I just had to get it out…but anyhow. What are your thoughts on this? Please share in the comments!

1: I am a die hard fan of anything J.R.R Tolkien wrote, a Whovian, Supernatural fan, and hater of Twilight.

Hmm. Probably Temple of Love by the Sisters of Mercy. It's such an awesome song. :)

That would be tea, I believe. I go insane if I don't get my morning cup.

 Perhaps Ireland...either that or Whitby, England.

Are you a cat or dog person?
Definetly cat. I love our dog, but I like the fact that cats are so much cleaner and they don't slobber all over you.

Which of your hobbies has the most calming affect on you?
Writing or reading...Something about them just makes me feel better.

Your biggest influence? (can be someone famous or just someone you know in rl)
My family, I suppose. All the things that we did when I was young helped bring my interests together. Either that or my ex-friend Sabina. Without her I would still be the extra shy wannabe hipster who had hardly any knowledge of culture.

What is your biggest irrational fear?
That something out my my control will happen, and I won't be able to stop it.

Do you believe in the paranormal?
Yes. Not zombies or vampires, for instance...But ghosts, yes.

What is your favorite accessory?
The Catholic Celtic cross I wore for 7 months straight. It was a gift from my dad and a symbol of my first days as a babybat.

If you could see any band(active or disbanded) live, who would it be?
The Sisters of Mercy (of course :)) But I'd have to time travel back to the 80s or 90s when their performances were at their best.

Do you consider yourself good at art?
Not really. :) I'm the writer, my sister is the artist.

Vampire's Day Soiree - Best Vampire Movies/TV shows

I decided to join the Vampire's Day Soiree, an event for Valentine's Day by Holly Horrorland (Blog post link HERE...

My post is on several good Vampire TV shows and movies, as I couldn't perform any kind of 'Vamp' look, my clothes are just not that versatile!

Also included in this post are each (TV/movie) best couple/best character

1: Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Back when vampires didn't SPARKLE, Buffy is one of my favorite vampire TV shows. Buffy is a 16 year old girl that discovers her true identity as the slayer.

I really liked this TV show, all the seasons were really good, and the show has an extremely strong cast. Both main characters and backups show quite good acting skills.

Best Couple: Angel and Buffy...but Spike and Drucilla are the Ultimate.

Best Character: Spike

2: Angel

A spin off of Buffy, it follows the path of Angel, the vampire with a soul, as he strives to protect Los Angeles from demon hordes.

In my opinion, Buffy was the better show, but Angel has it's strong points as well.

Best Couple: Angel and Darla or Cordelia and Doyle.

Best Character: Angel

3: Interview with a Vampire

A vampire named Louis tells his 200-year-long life story to reporter Daniel Molloy.

Most of you reading this are probably familiar with this awesome movie, of course, the book is better but I quite enjoyed the movie.

I normally detest Tom Cruise, but in Interview I actually couldn't recognize him until the credits came up! :)

Best Couple: Uh. Louis and Claudia? Not really a couple but they were nice together.

Best Character: Lestat (Obviously)

4: The Little Vampire

An EXTREMELY cute film, and very well done for a kids' movie. A lonely boy moves to Scotland with his parents and discovers his new best friend, who is a vampire named Rudolph.

I highly recommend this if you want to watch a cute movie with not so spooky themes. (Just enough...:))

Best Couple: Anna and Tony (Anna's ridiculously childish crush on Tony is quite amusing)

Best Character: Anna or Rudolph

5: Dracula: Dead and Loving it

One word: Hilarious.

I like a good comedy every now and again, and what better than a parody of Dracula?

I rate it 7/10, for good humour, if not book canon fact. :)

Best Couple: Dracula and Mina, although the Mina and Jonathan scenes were extremely funny.

Best Character: Dracula...but Renfield is certainly close behind.

6: Fright Night

A teenager suspects that his new neighbour might be a vampire.

I watched this one Valentine's Day morning, and even though my suspicions were that it was blatantly cheesy and unrealistic, (Well...it was KIND OF cheesy, but that's not the point) it actually surprised me.

For instance, this movie is NEW and yet they have vampires that abide by the rules, (For the most part...) like the 'explode in sunlight.' I was quite glad to see that vampire fiction hasn't all slid down the tubes.

I give it a 8/10.

Unfortunately for me, while watching it (especially during the first part) I started getting nausea...Yes, that's my problem. One horror movie and I'm 10 steps short of throwing up. This whole morning I had my hand on my stomach and I had to stop Fright Night a few times and watch something funny so I didn't feel ill.

(Note: This even happened with INTERVIEW WITH A VAMPIRE. I lose, big time.)

Besides that, it was fun and enjoyable to watch, I rate it as a favorite of mine.

Best Couple: Charlie and Amy.

Best Character: Peter Vincent, no competition.

OH YEAH

In my last post I mentioned a post on my newly aquired items from ebay, and today my older sister took pictures of me in my new outfits.

(Note makeup is much better now due to the fact that Sharon (my sister) applied it)

This outfit was inspired by well....a cross between Edwardian swimwear and Mrs. Lovett's outfit in the song "By the Sea"

My first band tee shirt! Also there are my new spiderweb stockings and another go at red hair extensions.

I'm planning on wearing this outfit for casual Gothy days...as soon as I get a garter belt.

Bat Fit Challenge 3

Greetings!

Here is my second post for Batfit's 3rd Challenge, the introduction is here as stated by Le Professeur Gothique:

For this Bat Fit Challenge you are to give up a bad habit,

and in turn, replace it with a good habit.

"Bad habits come in many shapes and sizes; and can be physical, mental or emotional. Bad habits gravely affect our total health, leading to physical health problems, depression, anxiety, and unfulfilling personal relationships. I challenge you, dear readers, to get rid of ONE bad habit. There's going to be a void where the bad habit was so fill it up with a good habit."

I already know exactly what I need to get rid of, it's blocked me so much and it even got in the way of my Bat Fit dancing.

For this challenge the habit that I'm going to kick is extreme laziness. I need to wake up and go to sleep much earlier, and I need to concentrate on my work and not just spend all my time playing games or watching TV/movies.

And also, I'm going to try to kick out other bad habits while I'm at it, those being negative thinking and excessive swearing, yes, I don't swear out loud but I have a tedency to rat on something awful in my head, and I need to stop being a pessimist all the time.

Okay...some more. Also I need to kick out my ridiculous worrying. Whenever someone doesn't come home on time or something seems to be a bit odd I get into an excessive state of worry and always assume that things have fallen to the pits. I need to stop as it's not going to benefit me. Worrying about 2012 caused me to hate Christmas this year and be depressed, so that's out!

And of course I have to stop being shy and nervous about what people think of me.

I hope to kick these habits very soon, and for anyone else doing this challenge, best of fortune to you.
