Post - Goth Population Here

Greetings!
I am sorry to have not posted lately, but honestly I haven't had a decent idea for a post forever...I still don't :(, but I've decided to try. This post will narrow on the Goth scene within my city.

I was pleasantly surprised to note that Australia has at least made a slight effort to acknowledge Halloween, mostly rubbish plasticy cheapness but I did score a pack of fake spiderwebbing which I've been gleefully stringing about my room. (Will post pictures of the room soon, just need to get a better camera. GRR)

While poking through the Halloween section, I couldn't help but laugh...this year 'Sexy Adult Costumes' have made it into the rather kiddie looking spooky section. Oh dear. Some outfits include the typical nurse, police woman, and WTF Monk?!! I really don't get how a monk would fit in...:)

Halloween is just getting sillier every year. Well, now on to the main point.

One odd note also is the high number of Goths that seem to exist about the neighborhood, none very fancy looking but still Gothy enough to recognise. I still feel like a shy freak around any other Goths though so I just gave them a little smile and observed them a little.

For boredom's sake I kept a count for the last month. That's about 20 Goth girls total and 2 guys all in the immediate suburb. In the old area where I lived that count would've equaled the Mall Emo population. Also in the count are included a total of 4 punks.

(I don't mean to be nosy, but it's rather ethereal like to see another member of your subculture!)

I have to say I'm rather charmed by this knowledge. At least this means that the locals of my area shouldn't be inclined to randomly throw objects or insults at me or anyone else as we walk the streets! Probably why I haven't had any trouble yet besides shocked looks, Haha.

It's just wonderful really, I've even seen little jewelry stores and whatnot run by Goths and quite a few are over their 40s...not like the usual 17 to 25 year old population downtown in the city.

Even deathrockers and people with a lot of piercings I've seen working secular jobs, secretaries, shop assistants, marketers and suchlike. Sure, some may tone down their looks to corperate but they are still noticably Goth!

Sorry for that ramble...:)

To sum that up, it appears that Fremantle is quite a Goth friendly area. ALSO is attractive to Goths due to the fact that it's a heritage city with lots of old Victorian or Victorian Gothic styled architecture...plus an old cemetery that's existed since the 1800s. (I need to go there...Grrr.....)

Now a quick spotlight on the main city, Perth, W.A.

Perth on Friday nights has quite a decent crowd of Deathrockers and Cybergoths who come and sit in one particular area late into the evening. Although I've seen that people give them nervous looks sometimes, some still sit in the same area as the Goths and seem to be quite friendly with our types.

'The corner' as I used to call it when I was younger, also is made up of metal fans, bikers and punks.

Lots of emos and scenes too walk around there, but then again, people from all different backgrounds and cultures come to Perth downtown.

 Note: *Hehe, Marilyn Manson appears to have quite a fan base...That's 8 people with his band tee shirts I've seen yet. But those are fans, they do not look mallgoth or spooky in the least.*

Farewell!

2nd Month!

Greetings!

Here is my 2^nd month post for my baby bat months. I hope it is interesting and perchance a tad helpful.

I’m glad to say that I’ve improved even more since last post, including my crusade to get my parents (not to mention sister) to accept me as a Goth. I think, and well, hope, that I’ve moved on from baby bat to Academic Goth.

Mom still gets annoyed with me sometimes, but that doesn’t matter. I’ve always been a pushover really and haven’t stood up for what I believe in; rather I listened to whatever other people said to make them like me, and to be ‘obedient’ and polite.

But when I found Goth, it helped me to see that I didn’t have to follow strict fashion rules, throwing things out when they got ripped or buying designer clothes. It’s also helped me to get into sewing and altering clothes, which are fun and a nice side along to knitting. Besides it was always awful trying to mix and match colours, black goes with everything!

Plus, since I’ve always loved the Medieval and Victorian fashion styles, I can finally wear them with pride, not feeling that I’m a weirdo.

-To sum that up, I feel more ‘myself’ every day. I hope to ‘come out of the Goth closet’ soon.

What’s happened this month?

-I’ve managed to get a bodice/corset, fishnet gloves and stripy arm warmers, and a couple of maxi lace skirts, with those I can now dress Aristocrat/Neo Victorian, instead of plain old casual Goth wherever I go.

-I’ve crafted a couple of Victorian style necklaces and have sewed a pair of socks into mini no fingered gloves. (Also a bit of altering, aka making puff sleeves, and adding additions on to skirts.)

- I got a lovely copy of Dracula to read last week.

-I’ve gotten over the ‘hideous makeup’ stage involving too much cat eyeliner, now I wear a simple touch of eye shadow and mascara… (I’d like to do more but mom absolutely forbids heavy makeup, and besides, when a young Gothling it is much better to start out slowly.)

-I’m listening to even more Gothy music, lots and lots of The Sisters of Mercy, The Cure, Bauhaus, and even The Damned. :D

And for future goals:

1: I’m getting my first pair of white and black striped tights next week, and some red hair extensions.

2: After that I am getting a lace parasol, a spider web patterned umbrella, and the Vampire Chronicles book series, considering how much I liked the first movie.

3: I also intend to visit our local cemetery sometime soon, (Although that will be hard because my family don’t like going places like that…)

4: I really need to get a hold of a medieval folklore and religions/practices encyclopaedia. Any recommendations?

5: Although my mom dislikes the ‘Deathrock/Trad’ look, (Which I am very fond of) I am going to go ahead anyways.

She said no spikes…. (sad) but I’ll go for studs and see if I can work up to spiky things.

Anyhow…

Tonight I’m having another tiny celebration, aka lots of candles and other cliché things like incense and blood coloured cordial. And maybe the full cliché of ‘wine’, candlelight and a good vampire novel?

PS: Tonight’s movies will be: Gypsy 83 (Although sadly it’s impossible to watch the whole thing online) and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. I’ll probably watch an episode or two of the Addams family as well.
